Sportrak DIY snorkel
« on: March 22, 2009, 10:21:45 »
couldnt find anything on here about this, but i have a cunning plan! (oh dear)!

i thought about using this:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Snorkel-Raised-Air-Intake-Flexi-Hose-63mm-x-1-5mtrs_W0QQitemZ310108709849QQihZ021QQcategoryZ31348QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262

Combined with this:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Southdown-Snorkel-Top-DISCOVERY-1-2-RANGE-ROVER_W0QQitemZ310127233220QQihZ021QQcategoryZ31348QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262

by my bodging calculations 63mm equates to just under 2.5" by roughly half a mm, so should all fit together.

havent worked out how to attach it to the windscreen pillar yet though, :-k have thought about using similar to these:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1-FLUORESCENT-LIGHT-TUBE-CLIPS-VIVARIUM-AQUARIUM-METAL_W0QQitemZ290300717029QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Pet_Supplies_Reptiles_Spiders_Insects?hash=item290300717029&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1683%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

with a hole saw and some silicone and maybe some jubilee clips, i think its 'do' able. :-k
any ideas and opinions greatly appreciated as always!!

i made a snorkle on my old sporty from some drainage pipe 58mm i think and out of some gutter down pipe on a couple 63deg bend and a 90 deg bend i think fixed to the window column with some self tappers the sportys dont really need a snorkle ive had a couple and they hate water by the time you were submerged to the air intake she would stopped running anyway unless you can find a way to waterproof the ignition coil dizzy cap i didnt bother with rubber glove i just corbed the lot with silicone lots of and its preety good been uptoheadlights for 200 yds and she kept running also iwould fit a electric fan because those belt driven ones chuck the water all over the engine

electric fan sounds like a good idea, worth looking into. i spray everything with wd40 or copper grease before i go out. at least then the water doesnt get in!hehe

I made mine from exhaust pipe , I made a template from the cardboard tube out of a roll of fabric then copied it ...£18 for a proper top off ebay and 20 for the pipe . works great...

so many hills , so little time ....
