TD5 Loss of power then cuts out.

I recently got a 52 Discovery, shortly after getting it I had noticed a leak from the fuel pressure regulator, organised for it to be fixed under the warranty. This took a few days to get into the garage to get done so carried on using it as the leak wasn't to bad. Anyway was out in the vehicle and had lifted of the accelerator as was coming to a junction and as i approached the junction the vehicle started to die and then cut out.
I had a look to see if the leak was worse and it was just the same, after a couple of minutes it restarted ok and drove fine.
Cut out again on the way to get FPR changed this time there was a load of black smoke. switched off and checked with my nanacom to see what was showing and this was showing an intermittent short circuit on one of the injectors. I cleared the fault restarted and all okay.
Got the FPR Changed and returned home ok (40 mile drive) Next day drove it about 2miles and again as I lifted off the vehicle lost all power and cut out, lots of black smoke. It wouldn't restart this time. Had a look on nancom and it showed an intermittent short on the turbo waste gate valve, cleared the fault and it started up okay, drove home.
Having had two different faults on the Nanocom thought i would check the plugs on the ecu(despite the garage having had a new injector wiring loom fitted) sure enough there was oil on the red plug. Cleaned this out and then checked ecu this was okay.
Went for a test drive and within a mile it lost all power and cut out lots of black smoke. Switched of, restarted after a few minutes went a hundred yards and it cut out again, more black smoke.
I have now changed both the fuel pump and the turbo wastegate modulator.
Took it for a test drive and the problem still occurs, checked on the nanacom and it showed 01-05 turbocharger wastegate short circuit CURRENT. I have checked the wiring for damge and not seen anything that would relate to this.
No warning lights come up on the dash and the above is the only fault that shows on the nanocom.
Only common factor I can see is that it cuts out when I lift off the accelerator.
Anyone had a simliar problem or suggestions as to cause?

I had something similar in my Td5 110. It would start and idle fine, but the moment you touched the throttle pedal it died - with the orange 'MIL' lamp lit on the dash. It would eventually restart and idle fine.........sometimes you could drive it, sometimes it died the moment the throttle pedal was touched. Nanocom was logging 'driver demand' faults !!
I changed the throttle pedal assembly - cos it made sense to me that it was the 'drive-by-wire' up the spout. No difference.
Ian (Porny) on here suggested that it could be the ECU at fault - they develop a dry joint somewhere around the big capacitors on the power supply circuitry within the ECU. I had a look, but could see anything. Fitted a 'new' ECU from Ian, coded up the injectors and alarm using Nanocom, and all has been well since.
Hope this helps.

Have checked the throttle pedal function on the nanocom and it seems smooth enougth, also within the readings as stated in the workshop manual.
Going to change the crankshaft position sensor next as this according the manual would cause the engine to fail loose power if it failed.
Anbody else had similiar problems or can shed some light on what might be wrong?

Good luck with this, welcome to the frustrating Td5 ! I have had similar problems, though its not cut out yet. Double check the loom again where it passes over the pump on the top right of the engine, it wears through here and causes all sorts of probs. You say you had oil at the ecu this will probably need cleaning weekly as it will keep coming through slowly, mine was really bad, i changed the injector loom and spent every weekend checking the all the plugs and sensors and cleaning them, it went on so long I changed the engine loom in the end. It still dies out briefly at 2000-2500 rpm.

My previous TD5 ran fine for three years no problem.
Know what you mean about the wiring bit, the convoluted tube was partly missing and brittle where it went over the pump etc, wire doesn't have any obvious signs of damage, replaced the convoluted tube.
The problem is very frustrating!

Think I may have found the problem...................the hose from the turbocharger to the intercooler has delaminated/colapsed inside. So my thinking is that everthing is okay at speed as the turbocharger is forcing air into the intercooler but when I lift off as airflow is not being forced it allows the pipe to restrict causing the engine to choke.
Too late today to get a hose, anyone confirm that could be the issue?
