defender lift kit
« on: April 18, 2009, 12:01:20 »
How many times has this come up ?

Am looking at putting a lift kit on my 90 may be a 2 inch kit would i need to do Castor Correction with this lift kit, but at the moment still thinking of going between 3 inch kit with 2 inch blocks to make it have a 5 inch lift but useing the blocks from ebay or would it just be best to stay with a 3 inch kit i would say i need to change the Castor Correction but not sure to go with a 40 deg" correction or the 60 deg" from m/m.
What would be the best on the Castor Correction 40 or 60 deg" correction arms and would i need to change the trailer arms as well.

2" is fine, no other mods needed, any more then u will need castor arms etc, if you use it a lot, i have always put a 2" lift and thats enough, 5" lift is very high and will also encounter more issues, it depends what tyres u will be putting on, anything up to 33" is fine on a 2" lift.

2" lift seems to be boarder line safe with land rovers, some people have found it enough to cause castor problems.

If you rotate the axle to correct the castor (eg with correction arms of bushes) then you will find that the angle of the prophsfat UJs have been put out of balance and cause seveir vibration. The more I look into modifying land rover suspension the happy I am about sticking to ~1.5" total suspension lift on mine.

Just out of interest, why do you want to lift it that much? Offroad performance wise i can't see any reason to lift
 more than 2"
