winch / bumper mounting and wiring

Hi guys i have recently fitted a guardian winch bumper to the front of the 90, i like the look of it and it sits nice and close to the body but this has caused a problem when mounting the winch as the rear bolt hole in the tray sit just behind the front panel have i done something wrong or does the panel & grill need to be modified to make it fit  :?

The winch i am fitting is off my old discovery its a warn 9.5ti when it was fitted to the disco it was wired to a aux battery at the front so the cables were not that long, so i just wanted to know could i wire the winch direct to the alternator just for a temporary measure  :roll: until i get some longer cables back to the battery     cheers Mike

The alternators maximun output is nowhere near the draw of the winch under load and the standard cables from the starter motor to alternator is suitable for handling that much current, so no don't mount it direct to the alternator.

Depends what size the wire to the started motor is. I haven't spent much time around a TDi, but on most automotive starter motors I've come across getting another wire onto the possitive terminal is easier said than done. Getting longer cables sooner rather than later could well be the easiest option.
