reclassification of 110 utility
« on: May 29, 2009, 10:37:52 »
This may have been asked before but if it has I apologies as I must have missed the post.
As some may be aware as of 1st April 2009 the 110 utility was reclassified to a LGV which in turn reduces the road tax to £185 from the proposed £405. This may sound too good to be true but if it works for new will it work for existig utilities. e.g. if I convert my present 110CSW to utility and get the V5 changed to reclassify it, can I benefit from the lower tax bracket.
I emailed the DVLA who have responded with " ask the manufacturer who shall provide guidance". Considering that the DVLA deal with road tax then to me that is a bit of a P poor response.
The passenger vehicle against LGV was raised on another forum where questions about insurance and speed limits was raised. Basically if it became a LGV it would be limited in speed to 60 on dual carriege ways and 50 on single but it is a defender and I only do that anyway so that would not concern me. The insurance companies it would appear are only concerened with what you insure it for i.e social domestic and pleasure irrespective if it has a V5 showing it as a LGV.
My next step is to get in touch with Landrover to see their response but just thought I would get some opinions from this camp first.
had a 90 hard top till it fell on it's head. Now have a 110 CSW

This may be a VOSA question rather than DVLA they may not play though as the "modification" means less money, if you put windows in the back of a van then you pay more. An interesting idea but I think they may say it's classification as an LGV only applies to first registration.
