What a rubbish week

Well, finally gone back to work after Maternity leave, after much soul searching and even more tears (the boy is with Daddy during the day- RRB!), and today they have started the 'consultation process' to make people redundant.  Any legal eagles on here know if they can use the fact I've been away for nearly a year having a sprog, so don't know any of the new systems to get rid of me?  I suspect legally they can't but will think up some other spurious reason to give me the elbow.

Feeling really, really, REALLY cheesed off.

Can things get any worse?

Anyone got a job for a part time Oracle / Business Objects / Data Warehouse programmer?  Preferably in South Yorkshire and not 'Dahn Sarf' somewhere?

I'd go and speak to the Citizens Advice people. I don't think that pregnancy or maternity leave can be use as a reason for redundancy. Good luck with it.

BUT......

Jess tells me it is counted as authorised absense and can not be held against you legally  ;)

Will it take you long to catch up?

Just checked up on this with my mum (company lawyer). The fact you have been on maternity leave has absolutely no bearing on redundancies at all. They cannot even bring it into the equation if they are discussing you with the possibility of making u redundant. As above, same advice - go the C.A.B., they are great and best of all free.

As has previously been stated here, the fact that you were on maternity leave isn't relevant as it's (legally) your JOB that becomes redundant not you.

I know that in the end it's the same thing but it affects the decision process about who gets the chop and who doesn't.

there's loads of hints and tips aboutt eh web at teh moment on ways to avoid being made redundant.  Make sure any performance appraisals are up to date and sound good, as performance can be used as a basis for selecting who to make redundant, try putting down on paper to your employers all the good things you bring to the firm 9value added), be proactive about making them realize what they'd be missing if they let you go.
