Spotty front bumper
« on: July 02, 2009, 05:42:27 »
The front bumper on my 96 Disco is slowly going all spotty :-.  I know this is a common problem, but is there anyway I can clean up the rust spots and make it look decent again, or do I need a new front bumper?

I need to replace the rear one anyway as it too looks a bit scabby and is beyond help.  Any idea how much these bumpers are, and how hard they are to fit? (It is an ES, so it has front fogs and headlight squirts).

Thanks!

the 300 series bumpers are all the same , all the plastic bits unbolt and re-attach to the new steel part. if you want to re furb the old one i can recommend Finnegan's stone chip most highly, my rear one looks like new.

most big halfrauds type shops should sell it, it comes in a large aerosol, i just used a wire brush in the grinder over the rust patches, filled them and spray with Finnegan's, job done.

Well, I finally got into Halfurds and asked for some of this stuff.

Employee #1:                                    Here, have some of this stuff (passes hammerite)
Employee #2:  You need to buy the correct colour paint for your bumpers from a LR main dealer :nods head knowly.

So, I'm still stuck!  I want to get rid of my spots!
