power steering pump

 hi all,
looking at buying a defender but it hase a leeking power steering pump how hard is this to fix? and how much will the fix coast?

unfortunatly that all depends on the engine

i know personally that a 200tdi defender pump is just under £200 but easy enough job to fit

are you sure its not the steering box thats lekaing as "they all do that sir" and usually when the pump leaks it doesnt leak for long as it will [throw it] all its oil out pretty quick

If the outer case of the pump has had a ding, then it may have bent it away from the large O-ring round the outside of the pump.

If it's an old type with the banjo fitting on the rear or the newer one with the high pressure fitting on the top you will need ta remove both in order ta remove the back of the pump ta check the O-ring, apart from replacing the high pressure fitting seals "copper or O-ring" that's about all you can service on them.

Got a secondhand pump in the garage you can have if you can collect it.
