rear body mounts

Hi, i have just helped my friend bobtail his range rover, its all sorted and welded back together but do we need the rear body mounts or can we get away with not using them. or could we just pack some box section between the chassis and the body (not weld to the body tho just to the chassis and touching the body)

All those otptions sound like a bodge.

Whathappened tot he rear crossmember? that should have 2 rear body mounts on it, you should have the remains of them on the chassis you chopped off.

ye we have the old body mount brackets but we didnt know if you need to put any mounts back on it or not.
i will go hunt down the rear cross member and weld the mounts back on then.

Probably best..... if you pack box section in without welding it..... it will trap water and rust, what would stop it falling out  :shock:

I know someone that bobbed a discovery without rear body mounts, it just rested on the existing floor supports. There appeared to be cracks forming around the rear body after a while.

Reattach the origional chassis mounting brakets further forwards to match the cross mebers new location. Remeber you have the rear seatbelt mounting points above these mounts.
