Td5 starter motor wiring...

I've got a non-starting csw X reg td5, possibly coolant in a cylinder (see post ages ago on smoking start up....), but need to rule out starter probs.

The starter 'engages' and turns the engine a little then stops dead.  Battery fully charged and sound.

Istr these starters can have duff power feed or earth, so want to check that is not starving amps so it won't turn over through compression.  Anyone describe to me where the juice feeds in and earth vulnerable points are?  A search has not come up with anything recent......

and yes, if I have left the head gasket too long, and coolant has hydraulic-ed the thing I shall be well cheesed off, especially as I'll know its my own fault.......  A

the starter motor feed comes direct from the battery
negative comes from the battery direct to the back of the gearbox
have you removed the feed wire from the ignition to the starter solenoid and manually cranked it over to eliminate a diff starter relay or a poor connection in that area ?

thanks Dan, checked the live feed all very healthy unfortunately.....  Won't turn over past compression - cyclinder full of coolant I'm convinced now.  Down to the workshop..... mortgage...... Ho hum.  Just hoping that as it was 'just' on the starter it hasn't done too much damage.  Only  had a new head gasket 18 months ago, but that garage closed last week.  Much appreciate the reply.  Age

did the head get skimmed and pressure tested ?

Great offer Dan, but I'm a long way dahn sahf from you!  Last HG replacement they told me they'd checked the head, and also said that if it was scored at all you 'can't skim Td5 heads so its £1k replacement' - true or false??  I haven't the skills (or more accurately the nerve) to do the HG myself - maybe I should be bolder and get a decent torque wrench.......!  Cheers, A
