Colway All Terrains & Hankook RT03s
« on: August 06, 2009, 23:07:00 »
Have had a set of Colway All Terrains on my Discovery 300 TDI for the last 2 years / 18000 miles. When I bought them new they were just over £40 a corner delivered so cheap as chips. I can't fault them as ATs neither on nor off road and the tread has hardly worn from new. However, I experienced a tyre blow out today (nearside front) whilst travelling along the A12 and it looks as if it was the tyre wall that went.

The dilemma - was I just unlucky with the tyre that blew today and get another All Terrain to replace the spare that's now on the motor or should I be thinking that, despite the huge amount of tread on the other Colways, they may have had their day and that I may not be so lucky accident wise if another blow out occurs and bite the bullet by replacing the whole set?

If I do replace the whole set, I was looking at Hankook RT03s here

Anyone running these?

I have 265/75/ on my disco1. Great tire for the price and they hookup well in mud. They must be good if Robie Gordon used them on his Hummer in the Paris Dakar.

I was also running Colways (although as a MT) and can't fault them on performance but when I needed a spare had to opt for another make... and went for the Hankook.

I was thoroughly impressed with the Hankook - good tyre at the right price and the lugs in the sidewall would appear to give some protection and possibly some grip in the slippy stuff.

Changing all will depend on your current tyres - my Colways had started to crack around the sidewalls (so I went bigger at the same time as changing!)

Hope this helps
