The servo might be stuffed.
Take the vacuum pipe off the servo and see if the brakes release.

Vacume pipe off and no change. You can't pump the breaks too. When you start it with your foot on the breaks no change. Oil is clean and at the right level.

Sounds dumb but perhaps the pedal has locked down, jamned or something got stuck up there or even master is seized????????

my guess is that you have at least 1 collapsed flexi pipe.

when the inside of the flexi pipe collapses it sometimes forms something similar to a valve and you pump brake fluid thru it and the 'valve' doesnt allow it to return. hence the brakes being stuck on!!

hope that helps....

Sounds like the master cylinder to me.

A freind of mine had somthing similar, this was traced back to a failiure in the brand new britpart master cylinder he had fitted. Swapped it out for a decent brand and cured the problem.

How stuck? are we talking seized callipers or full on emergencystiop levels of braking?

If the later I have a dim recolection of an ABS fault hat causes this.

Although the pedal is hard the breaks are not on. You do get a very small amount of breaks but the pedal won't go down.

Replaced the servo and Vacume pump. Nice sharp breaks but then lock on solid after about 400 yards.

I'm scratching my head now. Any ideas? What do I look at next? where would yuu go from hear?

Any help and ideas really appreciated.

Hi, did you replace any washers/spacers between the servo and master cylinder?, not done the disco ones myself but had the same prob with a leyland daf van. I fitted new servo and cylinder but forgot the plastic distance piece so when you press the pedal, the fluid goes in as normal but not all returns. Next time you brake, the brakes start to bind then they locked up

Didn't see any spacers. Just took the old off and the new land rover part on.  :-.
