Engine cut out! electrical help needed
« on: September 01, 2009, 11:26:40 »
Hi Guys,

On my way home last night the Rangie cut out!  Headlights went out and so did the ignition lights.  This morning there is no battery or oil warning lights, the engine turns but will not fire.  All fuses seem OK.  Any ideas?

Many thanks in advance

Mark

Egg sucking perhaps... but have you double checked the earth side of the battery? If the connection to the chassis earth aint right... none of the electrical citrcuits will "see" the negative side of the battery and so will not be complete circuits.

That's about all I can offer by way of help... but I'm sure someone else will be along in a moment to give you their tuppence!

It was the immobiliser that I never wanted!!!  Insurance company insisted on one of these little pains!!!!  It burned out.  Still, it is under warranty by the manufacturer but they say  have to go through the company that fitted it!  They haven't got one!  They did tell me how to 'undo it'.

Only problm now is the LPG won't work.  Dash lights come on first thing in the morning.  Stars on petrol but when it tries to switch to alterntive fuel (LPG) it fails and the dash lights go out completley!  If the soloniods are jumped gas can be heard but the engine dies!  whoopie-do!

I know, it sucks that insewerance comanies insist on fitting these damned things, I hate them too.  I've only ever had one that's lasted more than 2 years and it was supplied by GAP security, that's as close to a recomendation as I'll go other than change insurance company.
