TD5 fuel delivery - howling pump
« on: September 03, 2009, 20:26:58 »
Morning all!

I'm having a problem with my '99 TD5 - a few months ago, I noticed the lift pump was getting quite noisy, and last week, I had problems starting, so I swapped the pump.
This has made things worse - the noise is still there, starting took longer and then she just ran out of steam whilst driving (previously, had been fine once going). Now, it just won't start.
I've put in a new filter, had a look at the pressure regulator - seems ok visually, but got a new one on it's way. I haven't noticed any leaks anywhere.
Other than the pressure regulator being borked, what else might it be?

Thanks in advance!

Edit: Just read about tank breather being blocked. What's the best way to check and rectify this?
Thanks!

Hi

I had the same problem but a new pump was the solution for me and its now very quiet. Did you use a genuine pump? I tried a cheap version first and it still whined so i was advised to go genuine and seems to have worked.

Im sure you have, but check for air in the system and bleed it before spending anything more.

As for the breather, the end of this is under the near side rear wheel arch, probably covered in mud, so worth a look.

Hope this helps
