Hi I'm no expert but the 200tdi is muuuuuch easier to change over, a lot less hassle ( I believe the mountings for the 200 are the same as the 2.25 petrol). I looked into changing my 109 petrol and the 200 tdi came up trumps. I even got the donor disco but found a 109 diesel before the spanners came out.

You'll need to chop the mounts off the lightweight chassis and weld the engine mounts from the disco on, other than that, it's an easy swap.

Use the 2.25 box, fab up an exhaust and you're away :)

electrically, as easy as a 200 to wire in.

Only the Discovery 300 Tdi will bolt straight up to a Series box (altho you have to redrilll a couple of holes IIRC).

The 300 does also have the advantage of a higher mounted turbo that over comes some of the problems of fitting a 200 into a Series.

A Defender 300tdi WILL bolt up to a series transmission.
My 300Di motor is from a 1997 Defender.
