oil pressure v8i
« on: October 17, 2009, 00:43:27 »
I have just bought a disco 3.5 v8i auto, after a long run when the engine has been warm and when i stop the car and leave it in drive the oil pressure light comes on but then dissapears when i set off or put it in nuetral, is this a common fault. Does anyone know what kind of resistance i should get through the sensor or another way of checking the pressure sensor. I have also heard of the oil pumps failing on v8's can anyone reccomend a good oil pressure gauge and fitting kit to check and monitor the pressure.

I don't know the answer but can only say it has never happened to our 3.9 V8 in the 2.5 years we've had it.

The same thing happened to my v8 it turned out to be grass and mud round the wire on the oil pressure switch, cleaned it up then all ok.

Gave the spade connector a clean on the sensor it seems a bit better, will probably put a new sensor on it. Taking it back to the place where i bought it and they are putting some fancy oil in it i'm not telling them about cleaning the connection lol.
