Wheel alignment - what do I need to do?

Noticed today that the front wheels on the Disco are really angled in at the top as you look at it from straight in front
kind of like this /-o-\ (sorry for crap diagram).

Is this just tracking? I noticed that the tyres were totally scrubbed off on the inner edges when they were replaced yesterday which follows from the angle the wheels are at. I have just lifted it 2" so not sure if it needs some other form of correction too although the scrubbed tyres came off it pre-lift.

Any ideas?

with the wheels angled like that it wouldn't be the tracking.If i was you i would jackup the front and check for movement top to bottom,you may find that the swivel  bearings have collapsed or even the wheel bearings, though if it was the wheel bearing you would have heard it.

It's not as drastic as the diagram by any means, that's meant as just a guide. It drives and handles well and there is no noise from the transmission at all but I'll check the wheel bearings etc tomorrow.

I guess I wondered if I needed some form of castor correction bushes etc after fitting the lift?

Castor is the angle of the steering axis viewed from the side, what you are descibing is camber and it may just be an optical illusion.  Easy to check with a plumb line or spirit level as the camber should be pretty much zero.

Remember that the tyres bulge out at the bottom so probably best to check the outside rim of the wheel itself.

tyre tread scrubbing on the inside edges of the tread pattern would indicate both front wheel toeing out and requires the wheel alignment to be attended to.
i use a 3d camera 4 wheel alignment computer at work.
it could be a symptom of a bent steering bar... again having the wheel alignment attended to would correct this.
as far as i know there is no camber adjustment on a disco and as rrb said above the camber should be nigh on vertical.

there arent a lot of places that can do 4 wheel alignment as far as i know.
kwikfit and such places dont usually have a 3D camera alignment computer.... as far as i know, in sheffield there are only 2 places.
the old laser tracking is not accurate at all by modern standards..... its worth finding a place with the latest equipment if you can.

doesent matter where you take it there is no ajustment, where you are saying, like allready said wheel bearings or swivel bearings

i have over 3 inches of lift and no caster correction with 265 75 16  and they sit upright.

Even if Kwik Fit have the equipment they usually lack the ability to use it correctly. This sort of kit is only really usefull on cars that you can adjust caster/camber etc on, since all you can adjust on a Discovery is the track then a set of Dunlop gauges is just as usefull. Try a local garage, usually more helpfull than Kwik Fit & :-o the ilk.

From memory ( I'm not going out to the garage at this time) the distance between the center of the two track rods should be 123.5cm to get the wheels stair.  As allready said 4 wheel stuff is useless on a disco1 as you can't ajust any thing

I did mine using the measurements in the manual, when the tracking was checked at the local tyre place it was spot on.

The old school way of checking your tracking is a piece of string.  The distance between the n/s and o/s wheels has to be the same at the front of the wheel  and the rear of the wheel. Its just as easy to do it by eye!

ive used the computer at work several times on my disco 1. theres plenty to adjust with regard to wheel alignment.

it doesnt cost me anything so why use a piece of string or measure them when i can let the computer do it for me!! lol

i do still have to do the adjusting tho!!
