Body Swap
« on: November 04, 2009, 16:34:39 »
Hi All :)

Well, I've thrown in the towel on my current repair/welding project - the truck had just too much rot than I had the time to fix :(

So, a new plan of attack, last night I got an excellent body shell with NO welding needed anywhere!! It's still attatched to achassis etc but we plan to change that soon.

My questions, for anyone who has ever done a body swap, is what are the things you wished you had thought of? What made things easier? What would you avoid doing next time?

I'm lucky that I have access to two two post ramps and a decent workshop so I'm hoping it wont be that difficult to do.

One other thing, the shell is off a 96 V8 Auto, the chassis etc I'm using is a 96 300tdi manual. Is it as simple as changing the pedal box and adding the slave cylinder to the bulkhead?

All thoughts appreciated,

Stu.

jet wash the underside if you can so you can see what your doing and less bits to fall in your eyes. spray all body mounts the day before and then some more. as I often break discos and not to botherd about the shell I strip it bare first but if I was going to try and keep one in tact I mite think about trying to get it up with the doors on to keep its shape as they bend realy easly. I often forget the ties to the chasis for the rear seat belts aswell. not to sure about swaping an auto to a manule
