Imagine catching this on the road
« on: November 07, 2009, 16:29:03 »
We have a customer who tries to build a custom Mini each year. This is the 2009 one. Can't really imagine peoples first reaction when they see this in front of them on the motorway

Now how did he manage to keep the original number when that is a "radical altertion" to the original monoque?

At least you can see he has got red bulbs in those lights.

It isn't an original number for the donor car. The car is much later than '71. So it has an older registration transfered to it.

I believe it had to go through an SVA, or whatever it's called these days. I pointed out to him that it didn't have reflectors on the 'rear'.... his reaction? Oh yes, I forgot those!!!   It still got it's test though

The rear 'headlamps' are two pole stop/tail lamps with red bulbs. I believe he also has red angeleye type headlamps to give an extra tail light.

There's a couple of Landies about that are built the same way

That's not forgetting that Citroen also tried it on the 'mass-market' with the 'push-me - pull-you' Picasso :D

Then there was the MiniMerc and MiniRolls and the streched Mini, roof chopped mini, shortned mini.

Had driven the MiniMerc and sat in the strechedmini ( just a tubular frame with fibreglas shell wrapped round it)
1995 300tdi 90 rebuilt and on the road (but still a project)
1992 Pajero SWB 2.5 Auto (failed its MOT and for sale if you want it)

have seen the custom minis (cropped and short) at kit car shows. Had fantasised about making my mini van into a shortened as I do not think one had been done before and it would have looked funky. Then a bought a series1 landrover and got shot of the mini for 50 quid...  had been dry stored for about 10 years previous wit only about 24k on clock :(

Does it have 'Noddy' on the side? If so, it belonged to another of our customers.
