M and S lights on td5

Hi all had the M and S lights on the dash flashing today on my td5 disco would i be right that this may be an indication of the battery starting to fail?? orsomething more serious?

Nothing to do with the battery, i think its something to do with the gearbox and i can't remember what the M or S stands for.
