whitworth reorganisation.
« on: April 07, 2005, 21:02:37 »
As of the 1st of May whitworth quarry will be changing how they do things. The 1st and the last Sunday in each month will be open for 4x4 only, NO BIKES. The other Sundays will be for bikes only NO 4x4. This is following complaints from nearby residents "we are trying to work with them" is what I was told. The result being dont turn up before 9/30, keep your speed down on the road and only "road legal" vehicles will be allowed onto the site. There is an upside and down side to this as well, we will have access to all 150 acres instead of just 50 acres, but the price may have to be reviewed. Hope this is off help to anyone planning a trip up there in the near future

Very interesting.

Good news on the No Bike days, certainly will open up more areas for playing, and some good areas they are too.

I'd like to bet the price does'nt stay at £10 quid  :(

:?  Thats funny i spoke to John and Darren today on the phone, and neither of them mentioned this to me when i asked about this Sunday. Although saying that it would be a good idea to have all the 150 acres to play on. But the price will definatley go up, or will it  :?:  you see if 4x4 owners find out that they can use all the site, a lot more will turn up esspecially if we lose the right to greenlane in the future. Thus i hope will keep the cost down. I ring him again tomorrow and get more details. :D

 If this is true. I think ill be getting some more Diffs, just in case...

:( Hope the price doesnt go up too much, but if it goes to £20.00 its still a bargain compared to some play-sites. :D

True more 4x4's may turn up, but if you owned the site would you keep the price the same  :?:

They must be aware of the green lanes debate, and the site is already a popular venue. Just hope they don't try and cash in too much  :(

True, I always thought £10 was cheap, so an extra tenna I'd still be happy to pay.

:( MMMMMM Come to think of it, i bet all the other play-sites will hike their prices up when they find out the outcome of the Greenlane issue.

Not sure mate, the boys have a cub church parade this Sunday, and we have an estate agent coming round about the house, might be up mid-day-ish.

If not certainly want to go again with the site now being opened up more  :D

I actually dispute this as I prefer Briercliffe..... even for the £30. The site is more mud but Whitworth can be rocky.....

Goto my site below for some piccies on Briercliffe... I like it

Mind you , I do (did!!!) like the £10 for Whitworth too.... but we cant have everything can we??
If I could only find some mud to play in, I would be as happy as the preverbial pig!!!

I think I've been, was a few years back now but might be wrong  :?:

In any case I agree your pics do look great and it might be worth a Mud Club visit in the future  :D

Think they only open on certain 'fun day' events, do we have a calendar of dates for Briercliffe  :?:

Strange this thread.... 12 months ago I mentioned Briercliffe and was 'shot down' cos it was too expensive basically!! Now, it is almost 'acceptable' to pay £30 for a dfay off road....    strange thing life!!!

Anyway, yeeh they run usually every 1st Sunday of the month. They have no toilets and not usually food.... so always be prepared to take your own butties!!. There is alot for every type of terrain, mud, water, hills, rocks, bomb hole, or just keep it cool if you dont want to risk damage in any way

Start a new thread if it is on for any time and I will try to make it too... you wont be dissapointed (although I wont refund your fee if you are :) )

Incidentally, if you do go to Whitworth from rochdale, watch out for the speed cameras on the way into Whitworth itself. When you get into the village from Rochdale, you will see a pedestrian crossing (zebra) and a Co-oP or Spar on the right.

Turn LEFT up TONG LANE and across the next crossroad, past the reservior and up the steep hill. You cant miss the quarry on the right. If you go through metal gates.... you've gone too far :)

The butties are great

Maybe I will see you there for a few hours Sunday, depends on the missus :)

Camping now there's an idea  :D

Never seemed to of been able to make it up there Robbie, and to be honest with knowing Whitworth and the all important price I've always gone there.

Weekends just go in a flash in our house and before you know it back to work on the Monday, must try and plan things better but at the moment can't look too far forward as we are currently selling up.

Not even sure if Billings on for us this year, still one that won't be missed is Langley Farm.

Anyway will try and get to one of the days
