I think there's a lot of series owners will disagree that their trucks have a "use by " date on them.  For my part, our 21 year old RRC used to be a police car, it's been to the moon and back.  Anything that wears out I can swap because it's big meccano.

  :-k :-k :-k Isn't this exactly the point I was making? :-k :-k :-k

Also I don't think the question is what is the best offroad vehicle. I believe it was stated that it would spend most of it's time on the road and maybe used for some light laning.

Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm.

Yes, too tall and long, the porch is about 14 and a half feet long and 75" high, would a RRC (Range Rover Classic?? - I had to look that up ) fit.  I suppose the 'zuk is a possibility, but I'd prefer as big as the porch would allow.

I'll check but I think it's pushing it, my Escort is 13' long IIRC.

What about one of these?

£300 with 10 months MOT and CD player
£100 tyres
£40 paint and roller/ brush
£2 worth of sweets to pay the kids to paint it
Remember it will come in handy even if you never use it

Thanks
My self like so many people only have a small budget to play with.
Its thanks to this forum and people like Spanner man, Webber, Mike Hatton and Richie from Ruabon who have helped me out with parts and repairs I have been able to keep it. (sorry if I missed anyone out)
For me its been a lot of fun for very little money, and its handy to have a spare car incase mine wont start
The story that stands out for me is Nat Ham and his £300 Suzuki LJ its got a two stroke 3 cylinder engine is really old technology, he fixed it up and now it beats most things as its so light and agile total investment £600.
Here it is now
Second hand hard top £50
Diff guard Ebay £35
Roof rack home made £free
Spots £12 from car boot
Remember it will come in handy even if you never use it

Nats £600 LJ

Its not what you spend its what you spend it on.
If its a budget of less than £1000 then it has to be suzuki.
Saying that if I had 2K I still might be struggling but I would think Disco, but they are big and heavy
any more than that and I feel the cost to fun ratio is all wrong

Yeah, prices have gone up, not to long back for £300 - £500 a jeep zg or xj could have been had. Everything seems to be pushing K minimum now though :(

Dave you missed the kids out, they painted it

There is deffo a misconception on Jap parts costing more, trust me if I wasted money my Mrs would certainly let me no ....... bloody accountants

I drove LRs for a living in the RCT and when they are working I dont think you can beat them, though you have to sacrifice a certain amount of comfort.

What ever you choose there will be pigs and good'ns so choose carefully.

On a side note, most Jap or Jap derived motors can be lifted at least 2" for less than £150 with a bit of ingenuity, go mad get something with an open diff and test yourself

Good luck in what ever you buy and hope to see you laning some time

If it's got to be small, due to limited space, what about a Suzuki?

Must admit I could not get to work with out mine the last few weeks, been useful for shopping too
