Rear Diff input seal .... How?
«
on:
January 14, 2010, 10:29:05 »
Been going over my 300TDI 90 and found a few jobs.
Noticed the beginings of a leak coming from the input seal on the rear Diff. Just wondered if any of you guys had done this job and what the procedure was.
Thanks again for any helpfull replys.

Assuming a Rover axle, you just have to remove the propshaft, undo the flange nut and pull it out. Then you can hook the seal out and replace it.
You will need to come up with some device to stop the flange rotating when you undo/tighten the nut.

If you have some one put there foot on the brakes while you undo the flange nut you don't need to make a way of jaming it.
Or jam the bakes on

make sure the breather isn't blocked either as that can cause the leak

Thanks for that Lads now sorted.
I used the old seal to tap the new one in.
Checked the breather like saffy said and found it completely blocked ... Cleaned it out and replaced the old dif oil with new.
Now just got to start saving up for a rear cross member and have a look round to find out how to do that job ...
All the best ....... G
