TD5 engine just stopped
« on: January 21, 2010, 22:47:26 »
My TD5 just stopped tonight, 30mph, not racing, accelerating or braking, no warning lights, nothing... Just stopped and refused to start...

What things can make a TD5 engine just simply stop?
what are it's dependancies?

as far as i know the only sensor that a td5 needs to run is the crank sensor,  all the others it can run without and will just flag up an error light.  Your problem could be fuel starvation if theres no error lights

it could be the in tank pump,or it could be what ive come accross a few times now,top switch failure, its a switch inside the ecu that controls the fueling, theres no repair, new ecu imafraid,or it could be fuel pressure regulator, first thing you want to check mate, pullthe ecu out of the box, unplug it,you wont hurt it,it wont need reprogramming or anything, these engines have a problem with the wiring loom that goes to the injectors, what happens is,because there is obviously current goeing through the wires,it will draw oil through the loom, and will go all the way up to the ecu,go inside it,and burn it out,it sounds hard to believe but its true, hope this helps, jim

My TD5 did this a couple of weeks before xmas, it turned out to be the crank sensor...it turned over but would not fire.

mate it took me about 10 times of running the prime procdures to get it to fire, once air gets in the system they are a pig to get going again...And to think I sold a mint 03 plate M3 for the TD5.... :-o
