Diesel tank leak???
« on: January 26, 2010, 17:23:18 »
Just found a BIG pool of diesel under my fuel tank (TD5) when I turn the ignition on fuel pump starts and Diesel pours out from behind rear suspension. Its too dark to see if its the tank or hopefully a fuel pipe.
Any ideas as to where to check?

Thanks,
Its leaking from above fuel filter, closer to the tank i think.
Any ideas if its a job I could do at home, I'm no mechanic but I do stretch to basic servicing etc?

I've had this twice on my TD5, electrical cables on the top of the tank chafed through the plastic fuel lines as they were routed wrong at build - someone on here said it had been subject of a recall. Full set of colour coded pipes were about £50 but the tank needed to be dropped.

Thanks Mac, Same as..... unfortunately the tank was brimming with diesel so its now in the garage. They have dropped the tank and found 1 split hose, 1 pin holed hose and two more on the brink of collapse. Have quoted me £350-£375 by the time they have renewed all lines, new fuel filter etc. As long as the lines turn up tomorrow I should have it back tomorrow night.
I seem to get something break about once a month at the moment. ahh well don't you love em!!!!!!!

Lucky you. Must admit this is the worst problem i've had, only job I couldn't do myself mainly cause I don't have the time and a pump to empty the tank.
Getting it back tomorrow morning.
Just the driver door lock and the fuel filler cover solenoid to sort, then look forward to the next problem............ can't wait.
