No drive on Discovery Td5 Auto (again)
« on: January 29, 2010, 13:45:55 »
I had problems with my Td5 losing drive all the time and the M & S lights flashing i had the xyz switch changed about 5 months ago and everything seemed fine i gradually got confidence back and started doing more and more and miles, then out the blue it felt like it was missing but just carried on for maybe ten miles before losing power and the M and S lights came on again as i crawled along to a layby. It has now been about three weeks and it has not done it since but i am worried about going anywhere to far in it and would not even think about any off roading so its become a very expensive run around. Any ideas what else could be causing the problem, from reading the posts on here i think i have been mis - sold a battery that is not man enough but it seems to start ok and would the battery lose power while the engine is running. I have not been using the air con since the last time as i believe that can cause this problem, the only other thing i have just noticed is a coolant leak which i will fix but could that have been a factor. Any ideas most welcome.

the missing will prob be oil in the injector lume pull the red plug off the ecu and you will prob see oil thas about a 35 pond fix and a tin of contact cleaner
the m and s flashing is a elec fault in the gearbox box if u turn the ingition off then on it will reset the geqarbox and it works fine
with it being elec faults it need to be pluged in to find out whats up with it you can do the basic stuff like changeing the oil in the box and the filter  cheackin the level
mine puts up the m and s lights every now and then usually under heavy accelation but mine is chiped and got turbo turned up  and ive heard the gearbox is only up to the standard 136 bhp (ithink)  not the best part of 200bhp mine is putting out

I'm having very similar problems with mine, but I have reverse and no forward gears. It's going into a local auto specialist tommorow. I'll let you know the outcome...  [-o<

zf4HP22eh or zf4hp24eh  depends on the year they are a elec auto gear box
this is what ashcroft transmissions have on there site
can pull off in position 1 on the shifter and reverse is OK but in 'D' it will either not pull away or will pull off in 3rd gear
One of the one way clutches has failed which causes the loss of drive in D, it will sometimes pull off in 3rd as the ECU recognises a fault and puts it in 3rd which is "limp home mode", It needs a rebuild.

i dont like the way they say it needs a rebuild with them saying that it sounds like its pontless messsing  and just take it out and change it i dont like the sound of that what ever happend to trying to fix it
