ABS removal.
« on: February 03, 2010, 11:25:00 »
I wish to remove my ABS pump and replace it with a different manifold of some kind.

Now... I've seen this done on a truck that was prepared for trialling. A very neat job, sat where the ABS pump would be. All the pipe ins/out were in the right place.

Does anyone have any idea where this manifold would have come from? I guess the other option would be just to remake the pipework but the manifold looked so neat (and easy)

The reason for changing it is that the ABS has given me nothing but grief and this seems to be the most logical option to keep me rolling and safe.

Any help appreciated

J

I had the same problem with my 300tdi disco abs I ended up converting the motor to non abs it is really easy to do but you will need the non abs brake master cylinder and you must tell your insurance company

If ABS wasn't a factory option (all vehicles of that age came with it) then you won't be able to pass an MOT unless it has a system fitted.

If it was a factory option then you can remove / disable.

I've heard of naughty people who have wired up the ABS light on the dash to the oil pressure warning light so that the ABS system goes through a self test before the vehicle is started though. MOT man is happy if the self test takes place and the ABS light goes out.
