If the car has been written off, then it will need a VIC check. If it hasnt been written off then you wont
Also it has to have been a cat c or d write off as cat A and B are not allowed back on the road.

If it is MOTed today from a test in the past(pre-accident) then it still has a current MOT on the vehicle(unless twelve months have past).Wether the vehicle is safe and roadworthy is down to how the repairs were carried out.All the test is to prove that it is the same vehicle, and they don't check the numbers where you know where they are.I had the same test in the summer.

Have a look on the DVLA website, they have a list of all of the VIC testing stations. Just book in and they will check that the car isn't a ringer.

You are allowed to drive it to and from the VIC check without MOT or tax but it should be insured.
The VIC check has to be pre booked and as far as I know is only needed if it is a cat C not cat D.
My wife took my Cat C Disco for a vic check at Peterbourough as I was away when the date came through. She said it was all pretty simple just showed them receipts for parts I had bought they had a look over the car and that was it. Then I MOT'ed like normal and Log book arrived in post about 10 days later.

finally got a response from vosa went to book it and according to vosa there is no vic required its not been listed, so either insurance wanted it for personal peace of mind or they were ripping me off

If Vosa have said its not listed it might not have been added to the register, but that dosn't mean that it won't in the future. Depends how long ago the insurance paid out. We got caught out before like that ,buying a supposedly clear car to find out it got listed later on !
Either that or it might be a Cat D which wouldn't require a VIC anyway.

if it was motd before the crash and has been repaired you run of the old mot no new one is needed until the mot date before the crash
