How longs a piece of string?

You've got so many choices, the best thing todo would be to go to a few local events an see what everyone else is running,

But choices would be tyres minium 33'' snorkel and some underbody protection e.g diff, steering fuel tank guards and rock/tree sliders

Cheers for the reply.

I understand there are lots of setups etc but im just looking at something simple.

Would a 2/3" lift, steering/tank/diff guards, 33" tyres, front and back winches and rock/tree sliders be ok to enter?

Cheers

if you want just to test the water before jumping in, as people seem to come and go in the comp scene,
get a descent winch ( for amature you wont need a rear winch although it would be handy to get you out of nasty situations)
depending on budget try to get a pair of 8274's, if not, the goodwinch goldfish range of winches are brilliant for the money  ;)

tyres, start of nice and simple and get some insa turbo's, 285/85 r 16's which measure in at around 34" tall.

get a set of uprated steering bars and DONT bother with a steering guard, there get in the way more than they help out

a 2 inch lift is more than enough on a 90, and matched to the gwyn lewis kit give very impressive results and performance.

then a matter of tank guard, diff guards, sliders and then descent recovery gear.

dont forget a snorkel and axle breathers......and dont foget the timing chest and injector pump to atmosphear breather

if you want anymore help drop me a pm and we can have a natter by phone

Also the smaller overlooked items,  Fire extinguisher, winch and engine cut outs, warning triangles,  as  i said small but very important items for safety and scrutineering ,

P.Swhere you located ?? then perhaps a few of us can supply you with some "suitable" challenges to watch/compete in  ;) :D

injector pump to atmosphear breather

I think I know where it is (covered by vented rubber cap with gauze filter under it), what is the normal way to extend off that port?

some breather kits do come with a timing case breather with replacement injectore pump cover, the pipe tees off to this little rubber cover but imo its far from wet proof.
i made my own adapter in the lathe and used a piece of rubber pipe to connect the adapter to the pump.

amature level competitors dont require engine kills but imo, its far better to have one, and link everything to it, when i hit my engine kill absolutely everything that works off the 12v side of my land rover is cut off.
dont skimp on fire equipt and when you get a winch isolator dont forget that the cheap ones aint rated.
you need the all metal type

oh you mean the cover plate on the timing case (I seen those in kits) not the tiny breather that is on the actual pump itself?

the pipe that goes to the cover plate should have a t piece around 1ft away from the plate, that then goes accross to the pump, but it depends on who's kit it is i guess
