Tim, I see by your avatar information that you live in Dorset.
Without being too nosey, are you anywhere near this area?

I understand from a book that I'm browsing at the moment about curiosities of England that it was painted red as illiterate guards escorting prisoners from Dorchester Prison had pre-arranged lodgings at a farm in the area, & therefore they knew to turn at the red-post.
Why paint the entire sign & not just an arm?, I don't know?, and what if they don't know left from right?? (at least the Council is to be congratulated on keeping the 'tradition' alive)

Admittedly it's a long way from Yorkshire, but it's the kind of esoteria that interests me (sad aren't I?? )

I'm not too far from that signpost :-)

I'm also not too far from one of the few Green telephone boxes in the country :-)

I'd be a bit concerned if it was a blue one, especially if it had "police" on it and a flashing light!

My brother-in-law is a BT engineer & he came round today as he'd just picked up a brand new Transit.
I meant to take some pics, as it's superbly racked out inside, it'd be 'just the job' for anyone working from their Defender/Discovery.

Thanks Tim
