agreed value insurance
« on: March 24, 2010, 18:28:56 »
Is it worth it??
My Rangie is modified, winch, snorkel, etc. and have had a quote or two for insurance.

Adrian Flux have said for £10 fee, if I send 8 pics they will value it and we will agree a value.

Others will charge me £15 and will agree to my valuation but will re-value it if anything happens

Flux was not the best price but was the best cover, like for like on accessories/mods

Also worth noting some companies 'green lanecover' only included club organised outings  :-k :-k

I've just finished moving all my vehicles off flux. Their initial quotes are always good, but they put up the premium on every vehicle every year on year.. The last one was a 50% increase from last years premium - no changes on any of the vehicles, my address, and no convictions, that didn't get renewed yesterday.

Frank Pickles beat every quote, in fact I've a total saving of £450 over 3 vehicles leaving flux and going with Frank Pickles, whilst I was at it, I scored a 5% discount for all the members of the forum I help run.  Might be worth a call.

Frank Pickles was around £10 cheaper But that was the greenlane cover issue, club outings only, also 'market value' on my rangie is I would guess £!000 MAX so was looking for agreed value due to the mods.

Will be shopping around every time as I currently insure 4 vehicles

Strange, cus I double checked the green lane thing and it was for all cover + all organized trips. I need to confirm the insurance for one truck later in the month so I'll check then.

This comes up a lot. YOU DO NOT NEED EXTRA COVER FOR GREEN LANEING AS IT IS A PUBLIC ROAD!! You only need cover for "off road driving".

I found http://2getherinsurance.com/ to be very good for my LC. Agree value with just telling them what I had done to it, no pictures needed.

And I wouldn't fancy taking on an insurance company lawyer in a highway / byway argument.

I always thought that. SO if you need extra cover for green lanes then best tell them you may be using it on a motorway and will they cover that. If a green lane was not a road you would not need a licence or tax or insurance to use it. Just sound like insurance companys ripping people off more.

I use a normal local company fully comp for my disco for £400 as i hgv driver that not bad. Plus it includes a nice bundle with it.

...and as raised before....( I hopefully  understand it correctly [-o< ).... 'green laning' insurance covers you and your vehicle to make claim against own policy i,e your comprehensive cover stands ...  without 'greenlaning cover' in the policy you are STILL always covered against third party claims on a byway regardless. This means you will have the required legal minimum of insurance cover but depending on the policy you'll probably find your are not comprehensively covered whilst driving off a "highway" i.e a byway. Somewhere in the policy it will have to say something like "NOTHING in this document effects the right of a third party to make a claim"... very powerful statement.
So I think Paul is right you don't need extra cover to go greenlaning because its a public road just that you might not be covered to the level you would be on a highway. I think you are also right regarding wording of the policy for highway/byway differences but those clause may only effect the ability to make your own claims against policy.

If you only run around with 3rd party only insurance anyway you would have no worries because you was never covered for damage or injury. If we think about it is fair that they do charge more for extra cover for greenlaning (i.e give you comp cover) because the risk of damage/injury claims is higher.

the only risk of higher claims from driving a byway comes if those claiming can't accept responsibility for their own actions. i.e. if i were to slide on a loose surface into a hole and bend my car then i would fix it my self not claim on my insurance. equally if there was already another car at the bottom of said hole as i landed i would expect a third party claim if i could not offer a repair to the other vehicle, but i would not claim for my car to be fixed as it was obviously my fault and therefor my responsibility.

But that's your personal choice and probably not alone - insurance company wouldn't care that people do that - its laughing that you have such morals and sitting comfortable because people fear making small claims because of fear of losing no claims bonus (unfair con), unfairly increased policies (they gambled and lost - unfair again), stress of making claims (its by design to make it horrible to see a claim to end) etc.. Then there are others that will claim a new paint job because they got a scratch and they are entitled to do so.   But I wonder what you would do if you injury yourself greenlaning - maybe jarr your back, preventing you going to work for a wee while and you had adequate insurance cover to make a claim (max payout for personal cover is not that much either)

as a farmer there is no such thing as a day off regardless of what you have done to yourself; livestock has no sympathy and needs looking after.

I would have thought (but im not a lawyer) that your normal insurance would cover you on most normal "greenlanes" as they are indeed public byways, and that you would only need extra cover (not compulsory) if the lane in question was actually labled as "not suitable for motor vehicles".

I may be wrong but thats the way i see it.
