Go ahead, take it off.  See if it makes the slightest bit of difference.

Yep, mine failed to make it back on after I fitted a QT diff guard :)

I never noticed any differance when I removed it to fit a QT guard.

i am going to fit qt guard and new steering damper tomorrow
