Football world cup
« on: June 09, 2010, 22:57:33 »
Ok, so how many of you (like me) are fed up with the football world cup already? It's in the adverts, its in the papers, it dominates the news and the crap flags are in the shops (and motorway gutters).

Come on show your true feeling and take part in the great Mud Club football vote.

Hate football (or any sport involving a ball) and know virtual nothing about it .........but I have been known to follow Englands matches in the recent world cups and call the players all sorts of names when they mess up and don't win, I want them to beat other countries especially france, germany and argentina. I'm Welsh so that adds all sorts of emotional turmoil to the subject  I do think we should have a British team so that they go to war play under a union flag banner leaving the England and Scottish teams to bash it out together in house games not against each other in the international arena.

Dont like it, but my minor dislike is  fed even more by the constant "everyone loves it" thing. People want to you "support your team" and act like if im not interested then we will somehow lose and it will be my fault.

Also maybe we wouldnt be so rubbish at football if the supermarkets sold more healthy food and sports kit during the world cup, as opposed to lager, pizza, crisps in packets the size of pillows etc.

And also Fabio is not the "England manager" he is the "England football team manager", last I saw the "England Manager" was (I suppose) David Cameron.

But if your looking forward to it, have fun as I dont want to kill you viewing plesure.

But remember that if you want to see England win, Watch something like F1, Trials (Lampkin etc), or some other form of Motorsport.

I must add that I thoroughly enjoyed watching "England" win the word cup recently, particularly as they beat Australia in the 20/20 cricket final.

Poll on who dislikes football.
I just realised I made a silly mistake when setting up this poll. I put the word "Football" in the subject line. Damn, that means most with my own feelings on the subject won't even bother opening it!

I shall do my best to not see any of it. I'm not sick of it though. If people want to watch it, that's fine by me. It does mean you can go out for a walk or drive on nearly empty roads for an hour and a half. Or do the weekly shop in an empty shop.  :D

Today, I even had a customer in Germany 'wish me luck' in the tournament   He seemed amazed when I told him I have no interest in it whatsoever.

Over the years of me doing my Plod job, most of the Public Order jobs I was deployed to, were Football related.
I have never been deployed for Rugby, Cricket, F1, Olympic, Bog Snorkelling or Cheese Rolling Public Order jobs.

It makes me cringe when I hear the phrases/words 'Ingerland', 1966, 'Beautiful Game' and other such nonsense trawled out over and over again, and to hear these overpaid egotists such as Rooney and Beckham described as heroes makes me angry.

I'm going to get some beer and find something to watch that has nothing to do with football.

Between the Football and Big Brother on telly, I think I'm going to be on the computer a lot for the next few weeks.

I've watched F1 so far this season and it's been brill

I am in a similar situation as LSP. After I retired from the Army (the proper one, Spanish, I mean :D) I worked in security for a while. My company had the contract for the Santiago Bernabeu (for those of you who like football as much as me, it is the Real Madrid Stadium).

Now, until then I my feelings for football were mainly of mild indifference. Since then, I positively loathe football. The mindless thugery of the mobs, coupled with the prima donna behaviour of the players (most of whom couldn't even spell their names properly), have really turned me against anything to do with football.

Add to that the fact that the way children are coached to play football leads to early injuries caused by overdevelopment of muscles before the esqueletal structure is ready to support them, which in term leads to joint problems in later life, and the fact that footballers are second only to boxers for brain microhaemorrages, and really gives my comptent for football a healthy level of hatred.

Gimme basketball, rugby, cricket, rowing, kayaking, sailing, dressage, archery, even bowles, but please, please, Mr Cameron, for the sake of our children, ban football.

Toodle-do, and all that.
