v8 oil pressure issue
« on: July 08, 2010, 19:38:50 »
Hi, im having some trouble with my 3.5 v8 auto. Recently after a hot long drive the oil pressure light would flicker on when i came to a stop and still in drive. I then changed the oil to 20w50 and put a brand new pressure sensor on after this the same fault still happens. Now ive changed the oil pump for a new one and the oil pressure light comes on even worse than before any ideas? Cheers.

what make of oil filter are you using?,only use a good quality filter, such as unipart or britpart, because some filters have a weak spring inside the filter, called a bypass spring, its job is to bypass the oil rather than filter it,if the pressure was to go to high,if the spring is weak, poor quality, then the oil is bypassed, not filtering it properly, then looses pressure, just a thought mate,as ive seen this once or twice.

Since when did britpart become good quality try genuine parts as they are not much more in price
If it ain't broke hit it with a big hammer then it will be.

The overpressure relief should be inside the oil pump housing, not the filter.  However I'd be tempted to suspect the crank bearings.
