How do you stop radiator hose leaking?
« on: July 22, 2010, 22:23:47 »
I have just rebuilt the top end of my V8 as the head gaskets were leaking water. Now it's all back together the bottom radiator hose leaks. It's a new none genuine hose. When I re fitted it I just nipped the jubilee clips up, I have tightened them up as much as I can now and all 4 connections leak (bottom of the radiator, waterpump, small heaterhose and small hose to expansion tank)

Should I get a genuine hose? will that seal better? Should I put some sort of sealent on befor putting them together? any Ideas would be greatly received..... I determined to have a completely watertight cooling system, and this hose is the only bit letting me down

Thanks

Jonny

Better clips, do not over tighten as the hose can pinch and cause a leak.  Make sure the metal elbow is perfectly clean.

Perhaps run the engine for a few days with the res tank cap loose untill the hoses take up their new shape.
