We are having a Grand Prix here   :dance:   Lot's of people are buying a car specially for the "Event", I couldn't find a Disco, so had to settle for a Range Rover     
They are all getting F1 cars and Aston Martins etc      So how can I cheat improve my chances of winning     :-$  :-k

I'm sure when I was a kid we used to take the tyres off, wrap string around then then put the tyres back on, effectively increasing the size of the tyres and therefore the speed   :dance:

I'm sure that in the past 20 (+) years, technology has advanced a bit & I can do better than that    :lol:

It depends on how much work you want to do, but you can get lots of different gear ratios, and higher powered motors direct from scalextric.

Another thing is make sure there is lots of wire on the pick up skate.   Cos with no wire it will have no electric power pick up, so wont go

As said above and some have more magnetic motors so they grip to the track better on the corners.

Your main problem with the Rangie will be centre of gravity. If there are no rules about vehicle mods I might be inclined to remove the windows and replace them with some thin clear plastic (assuming they're a separate moulding). If it's the Police version and has a roof light bar you might want to unclip that too. Basically anything you can do to get the weight lower down.

Magnetraction has been around for a while, you could fit a larger magnet but it might have an adverse effect on top speed as it will increase drag. If you want to try it then you can buy assorted sizes of very powerful magnets from ebay easily enough, just mind your fingers as they can do a fair bit of damage if they spring together with a part of you between them.

Motor bearings need oil occasionally, if the model has been sitting around for ages (quite possible) then use a cocktail stick to put a tiny drop of light oil on them. Don't use too much and definitely don't use WD-40 as it was never designed as a lubricant.

Run the motor for a while on the bench to bed everything in - use a variety of speeds and change direction every so often.

Have a look on flea bay for Fly slot cars.  They aren't cheap but they are hellishly fast.  Also there are plenty of upgrades including thicker axles, turned wheels and roller bearings.

You do want ot buy silicone rubber tyres, they have way more grip, you can swap wheels with different series (like say the american muscle cars) to change rolling radius and you can buy high-speed motors and change the gear sets.

My fastest cars are FLy and they can stay on the track right up untill you go flat out, at which point any car will hit the wallpaper.

Look for one with a transverse motor if you can and you might want to experiment with adding weight.
