Buying advice please?

Strange as i've owned most of the models that the oval as produced but not a P38, ideally i want a 4.0v8 with lpg but don't mind the 4.6 and either boot well mounted tank or underslung tanks. Question is what else do i need to look out for?, i know i need the lpg certificate to keep the insurance happy and make life easier. Thanks and trust you guys to come up with words of wisdom .

just press every button and make sure everything works, and i mean everything
some stuff is cheap to fix but others are very cash intensive
if your planning on keeping it for a while spending a few quid at blackbox-solutions would be a wise investment and get registered on rangerovers.net forum theres a wealth of knowledge there

All the usual stuff with the V8, the gearbox is electricery so try eveything including the low box. The EAS is similar but not identical to the RRC and the HVAC is all ECU controlled too. A good P38 is a nice thing but early ones earned a bad reputation.
Check the engine for evidence of regular servicing

If it is a 4.6 then make sure that the engine is absolutely sound. How many miles has it done and does it have service history. Have you been able to take it out for a test run?
Does the gauge go up whilst you are driving or just when stationary? does it go up a little bit and stay there or does it carry on up to the red?

It could be the radiator/fan combination that's getting past it's best, does it cool down when you ease off? if it keeps getting hot it's a problem, if it cools down again then perhaps a weak cooling system.
