Break It or Sell It??
« on: September 08, 2010, 11:25:41 »
Hi,
Bit of advice needed,
I have a 300TDi Disco that I haven't driven since February this year as I don't seem to have the time!
I could try and sell it as it is but I think it's probably worth more in bits than as a whole, it has the following kit.
Scorpion winch bumper (cut to fit tyres)
Warn 9.5XP with new motor, Marlow synthetic rope and albright solenoids.
Split Charge relay and led monitor with one standard battery and one Optima Yellow top (both flat).
Bucket seats.
CB.
+2" Scorpion springs all round.
-2 front tubular turrets with +2 De Carbon shocks (I know bad combination).
Challenge rear shock mounts with +5 Terrafirma shocks (good combination).
2" Wizard body lift.
Extended, braided brake lines.
4no. 35/12.5/15 Pro-comp X Terrains on white 8 spokes with less than 1000 miles and Hankook mud spare never used
Scorpion rear bumper (cut for body lift).
Tank guard, steering guard and front diff guard.
Roof bar with spots.
Wipacs.
New front discs and calipers, max 100 miles drilled and grooved
Guardian tree sliders.
Wheel spacers.
Extended arches.
90 transfer box
new clutch, less than 500 miles.
wide angle props front and rear, Gywnn Lewis
QT arms Front & rear.
Southdown Snorkel

It has a few knackered bits, bootfloor is on its way as is the inner front wings, drivers door lock spring is knackerd, drivers electric window sticks, two of the front nearside flange bolts sheared when the discs were changed and need extracting and replacing. Not a lot but sounds crappy if your trying to sell it. I've looked on e bay and nobody seems to be buying!
So any advice chaps??

I'd say to break it for parts. The interesting modded bits will probably fetch more separately than a rusty Disco with assorted minor annoying problems.

You could try to return it to near-standard condition, sell the mods, then sell the car, but I don't think it'd make much of a profit especially if you had to pay to have the work done.

You're probably right, I wouldn't have to pay to get the work done it's just a time thing really, I can't find the time to fix the broken bits let alone break it, though I suppose it could be done a bit at a time and does seem to be the likely solution.

Wack it on e blag, i have seen some "modded" discos go for for silly money, pop a reserve on it and apart from listing fees you have nout to lose, apart from stupid questions from buyers
TD5 with a few Tweaks ;o)
a bit more fuel friendly than the V8

Worth a punt I suppose, any ideas on a realistic value though? I just want to get shot of it and get myself a cheap Series II or III. I don't want to be without a landy completely but I don't need something tricked up to the nuts. I also don't want to sell it for [!Expletive Deleted!] all when I think of all the money and time I've put into it.
