Not sure about the mainland Bob, but here on the islands any Peat tracks are open to anyone, tracks to lochs that are not on an estate's land are okay. If you want to drive any estate tracks then best to ask before proceeding as it may effect a local clubs access in the future or the estate may be culling deer and you don't want any stray ammo flying around!! :shock:

A group of us went to Durness, on the North coast, a couple of years ago and before we got there I had a look at the O/S maps of the area, found some tracks and contacted the local police to see if they were on estate land. Then I contacted the estates for permisson to drive them.
Unfortunately it was in the middle of the shooting season and, as this is the main money spinner for the area, we couldn't use the tracks on safety grounds. :(
However, we were able to drive on the beach and dunes at Durness which made up for it in a small way.
