Calling All 'Tykes'. Part 2
« on: April 29, 2005, 12:05:21 »
Following a previous thread asking Yorkshire members to suggest photographic locations; Calling All 'Tykes'

I have spent the past 2 weeks whilst on annual leave chasing around the county adding copious photographs to my 'WebShots' (& creating new albums)

There are considerable amounts of material added since 'Calling All 'Tykes' was first wrote.

Yesterday morning (Thursday 28th) was spent in Leeds city centre adding loads of pixels to my image bank :D

Over the next month or so, a few 'more motoring orientated' albums will appear.

Comments (nice & otherwise(!?) gratefully accepted

I even ventured as far south as Nottinghamshire  (for the Vulcan &  Lightning)

If you ventured to that part of Nottinghamshire you could have created a whole website on twin axle caravans towed by transits

I take it that the area is reknown for its over-abundance of the 'travelling fraternity'?

That would be the politically correct way to describe them, many I know use less charitable terms.

I considered going out & adding a few more for the albums today, but it's a gloomy, precipitous day here, so I'll consider my plans carefully.

Mmm....
I could have a trip over to Simmonites to have a look at Defenders

No not ex-RAF jet fighters.

However there is a small collection of aircraft to the side
of Donington Airport that would be worth a look at...

Never found the time when I've been nearby.

Stop it, you're making me         blush :D

Thanks for that, it makes it all worthwhile;
The mileage, the getting wet, the eating in wonderful little 'out of the way' cafes, the sodding punctures, the trips over the Moors, etc.....

It's an Olympus C-350ZOOM
Sadly it's been dropped inumerable times & the battery cover doesn't always make contact, so I can sometimes miss a shot as I try to persuade it to make contact.

That's the main one, but I sometimes use an Olympus D-575ZOOM as well

Park-Cliffe is very nice, but if you're taking a caravan (or trailer) go from the southern approach.
DO NOT even attempt from the northern direction.

From the north, it was an 'other side of the road & full lock turn' even for the father-in-law in his Focus
I could cut the corner slightly in the Discovery, but it was still very tight

Now THIS is a nice site, with stunning views over Derwent Water.

It is located here, it's the one with the caravan & tent symbol

......... Which is handy for this museum (well worth the visit)

Stars (for me) include;
General Lee (a genuine studio car)
Mad Max 1 Interceptor
FAB 1 (yes, the full sized one  )
BatMobile (TV car & they've got the movie cars)

Donald Campbells memorial & grave are roughly here
The Campbell/Villa memorial is at the junction of Tilberthwaite & Ruskin, the grave is to the north of Tilberthwaite (over the unmarked white road)
The lakeside stone is at the bottom of Lake Road, next to the BlueBird Cafe.

That's just in case, like me, you still marvel at the mans bravery

Phone them up & ask, say it's for a wedding

Sadly the No Photography rules are enforced, there's CCTV everywhere.
I heard the staff saying that (on the day before my visit) they'd asked 2 to leave for taking pictures.

Wouldn't you rather have this, obviously pre-restoration, it is bl**dy HUGE!!!!

Doesn't have enough ground clearance to get round Whitworth  :D  :D  Where as the A-Team van would be right at home splashing through the puddles until it gets stuck.
