should i be impressed?
« on: November 01, 2011, 20:16:58 »
23.65 mpg from a 300 90 with an ifor top narrow lumpy tyres 3 big adults up front plus approx 150kg of kit in the back and driven with an eye on the time.

Is this about right or what should I expect.

should of hoped for better than that on long trip with cruise around 55mph of a 1.44 box with 7.50 or equiv tyres... try 30 or more. my 110 is doing over 30 with extrememuds, roof tent on a steel rack, loaded full of junk in rear and a lot of through town roads.
people say ifor eats mpg though.

It was up hill down dale stop start and a bit of off road to get to that.oh and looking in the book it claims 27 as best on urban for an empty open pickup,I guess 3.5 to the tyres and top is ok in those terms.how do you get your 110 that high in that configuration, have you altered your fueling?

hmmm engine side it does have a full length intercooler, K&N filter and the IP is adjusted accordingly but not sure if any of that makes that much difference to mpg.
The transfer box is a 1.22 not 1,44, so it does have better cruise on motorway but hinders everywhere else with frequently having to use lower gears. I think the 1.2 ratio box mod works so much better on td5 trucks as they have that midrange grunt that the 300tdi lacks which allows them to keep the high gear engaged.
Both the transfer box and engine are very low miles and serviced regular which I think is the biggest factor in the mpg.

Much happier this morning. Went to york last night with the wife and best mate and a steady drive on open a roads got 32 mpg. Same tyres and top but much less weight and flatter roads.

Averaging over the 2 tankfulls is about what you'd expect then, high 20s MPG.  Probably you got a fair bit more fuel in on one fill-up.
