Front Axle probs?
« on: December 14, 2011, 17:38:39 »
Good afternoon. Just another quickie? no pun intended!! On me series, i have a clicking when reversing and now have a lot of play in the ns wheel, what i mean by this, i removed the cap over the hub nut, the hub ut is tight, really tight and split pin in place,. but theres play in it, i can pull the nut and thread, back and forwards not much but its moving. slight oil there but not dripping out. plus when on my standard wheels, it clonked when turning, whilst moving. got quite worried so swapped me wheels and tyres for me disco wheels with muds on ready for the snow, nothing? got me steering damper on too as when i had my 31x10.5x15s on it had really bad wobbles, over a pot hole or drain, uncontrolable! but on the flat, fine!! new axle me thinks!! any ideas??

if it's a series axle it could be the UJ (they don't have CV's)
No need to replace teh axle just because one part of it is worn out.

Hi, thanks guys! don't u think the diff has a part too, as i can grab the prop, and turn it half a turn before it does anything! back one is much different, much tighter! If its just the hub, ill replace that but for the swivel and bearing including shims is near 100 quid, then if the diff is up the spout, ill have to get that too!! mmmm confused!!

half a turn on your propshaft makes me think it's one of the uj's in your front halfshafts gone (same as everyone else here) there's no need to swap the axle to sort that out unless your swivels or railko's are shot as well, you just need the new front halfshaft

but until you start stripping them out you'll not know which one you need unless you can hear which side is clicking when on full lock
it ain't broke ...

i ain't fixed it enough
