Newbie in Huddersfield

Hi Everyone,

Just a quick hello from Netherton, Huddersfield.

300TDi Disco owner currently ungoing offroad prep........... hopefuly be good to play in the mud within the next few weeks so will be looking for some gentle Lanes in and arround Meltham, Holmfirth, Hade edge and anywhere else nearby folk can recommend :-)

Stinky (my disco) is currently getting treated to:

Ironman +2" lift (container arrived from Oz last week and should be on its way to me this week  )
Rear spring relocators (Gwyn Lewis)
Rear spring retainers (Gwyn Lewis)
Extended bump stops (Gwyn Lewis)
4 bolt rear diff flange (Gwyn Lewis)
200TDi rear propshaft
HD turrets and Turret rings (Gwyn Lewis)
285/75/16 Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac's
Flexi Arches
Wheel spacers
Bearmach Ally Steering guard
1 worn out Dremmel from all the chopping LOL!
Cranked rear trailing arms to come at a later date................

Will post some photos as soon he's looking good 

Would love to hear from some other locals as I'll be needing some pointers re. where is good to go laning round here and some buddys to help pull me out of the sh*t when I get stuck or things break! It is a Landrover after all!

I actually bought Stinky over 2 years ago with the intention adding a few choice bits and playing in the mud......... taken me this long to get my finger out and start sorting things out 

Should be a nice toy when i'm done though

Hello and welcome.

Just a quick word to the wise, playing in the mud is an activity reserved for places like parkwood/tong or your own private land. Driving on lanes is a gentle pastime that involves not doing any damage at all to the surroundings. The two are very separate and must be considered as such.

I'm not trying to be preachy just helping avoid problems down the line.

I've had a good read through the 'greenlaning code of conduct' sticky and certainly have a great deal of respect for the countryside that surrounds where I live. I understand that laning is a whole lot more gentle than the likes of parkwood or Toms farm but that's exactly what I need for my first few trips out. I've heard a lot of folk jump straight into the technical stuff and kill their trucks 1st time out

Other than 2 or 3 landrover experience days I have no off road experience whatsoever so gentle laning is exactly what I need. I do have mechanical sympathy and my business partner is a qualified off road instructor (over in liverpool and currently without truck) so I'd like to think i'm starting from a good vantage point

Anyway, thanks for the welcome and rest assured I won't be abusing the lanes and spoiling it for the rest

I started out didn't know what i liked so went with a mate to a pay& play site, got the bug for that, my local site is about half hours drive but i don't take mine round we use a mates series or d1, just starting out doing Laning with my local 4x4 offroaad club enjoying that i use mine for that.

funnily enough got my D2 2 years ago over that time got the Stering guard, lightbar on the roofnext bits over the next few months  are gonna be diff guards/ tank guard with reciver hitch and snorkel then thats as far as i will mod it. mind you when I got this disco said i weren't gonna mod it hahah

Modifying is a desease with no cure!

Think i'll be doing bit of both TBH...... will go to pay and play once i've got some more experience but only when i'm comfortable with my skill level and have a good idea of the capabilities of my truck. Be rude not to having parkwood just up the road in Tong village  but think there'll always be a need for the more serene lanes as i have 3 kids, the eldest of which is chomping at the bit to come off road

never been to Parkwood  my local site is The Devils Pit Bedfordshire nice site, you tend to get more end of life motors running about in there. There's one Disco there last time and it looked like the Devil had chewed it up and spat it out lol

I also use Yarwell in Peterbough nice site got tracks for all types of drivers. bigish site there was 42 Disco 2's there from one off the clubs i'm with and other people there and it still seemed empty . This is the site that they use for the offroading couse at the LRO show in september.

Will certainly look out for you as i drive through Meltham quite a bit and cant help but look at anything with a LR badge........
 (apart from FL1's  )

Few other nice LR's I've spotted in meltham now....

Probably b posting in some other areas now I've introduced myself so look out for a build thread and the odd shout in the greenlaning section.
