It to link a pipe from the air intake from the wing to the snorkel bit that fits through the wing to save messing up the air box just thought this pipe would be a good idea and I think 90 mm or 3 1/2 is the diameter of the snorkel end pipe thing

I thought it was usually 63mm? Mm4x4 do some green and black pipe that is good and flexible.

No the end of the Snorkel that goes through the disco wing is 90 mm or near 10 cm, and the end pipe on the air box is nearly the same size so to save drilling and making a mess of the air box why not fit a pipe to the exisitng bits,

but I never thought I would have this much trouble getting a piece of rubber pipe, I mean surley garden centre or builders merchants would have this but no, but have had a. thought of 2 bits of hose from a series 3 landy would do the job so in the morning I will be off to furbers in wem for another root around. if that fails then I will have to vandalise the air box with holes a sealant etc

A friend of mind had a similar problem trying sort out of getting some pipe to go between his home made snorkel and the airfilter on his converted 300TDi 90. The best way we found was to get a solid pipe for the most of the length, most flexible hoses will collapse over these sort of length unless you can get hold of the sort used by Motor manufacturers these are specifically moulded for the job. I know my freind even try aquariums to fine what we need no luck.
What we did eventually was to have a solid pipe a few mm short of the length of distance between snorkel and airbox, and use 2 short length (aboout 100mm) of of Silicons rubber hose bought from ebay, There are people on there that speciallise in hoses, to cover the joints and was strong enough not to callapse when put you foot down.

Thanks guy. could use 3 straight bits of drain pipe stuff and 3 elbows with a bit a rubber flexi to join them to togeather to the snorkel or last resort is to do it properly and cut the air box and fit the proper moulded plastic stuff thingy ish then at least I know it will do the job, just thought there had to be an easier way to do it

Thanks Mark will look into that , but just had a thought, looking at youtube vids of peeps fitting Mantec snorkels these look like they come with a big flexi pipe so without having to buy a mantec snorkel, where do they get the pipes from ? or could I just ask them for a price on just the pipe mmmmm ?

other wise its the only other option is to cut the airbox to ribbons

thanks

I used the green and black stuff from mm4x4 that I said about on a previous reply on my range rover snorkel which was a Manteca one.

Just a thought guys I have some flexi pipe now but have been told to test its strength ?? a guy has told me that when on full ish throttle the pipe may cave in and be no good as it would collapse and not suck air into the engine is this correct ????

thanks

Non corrugated Hoses in the application you are using are usually re-enforced with a bound spiral of steel to prevent such deformation. You can test by blocking/partial restricting the air flow into you snorkel/air intake and observe what impact the partial vacuum has. You usually do this to test the snorkel is airtight anyway. (Do not do it with a free flow -oil soaked air filter like a k&N inline as all the oil will get instantly leeched out!)
