What's wrong?
« on: May 05, 2005, 12:22:20 »
There hasn't yet been a rush of people wanting to buy my tyres   and I was wondering why :-k

Am I asking too much? Do the wheels need to be included? Is there no second hand market for Colways? Is this forum a bad place to sell?

Any sensible opinions and/or options? Keeping them as a road set isn't really viable, as I have nowhere the store them :(

Also, does anyone know of either a supplier of Colway/Greenway/Technic tyres in the South-East, or a place that will fit tyres for less than £15 a wheel?

I don't think the forum is an especially bad place to sell, it's not as if we don't have a lot of visitors here !

A bundle with wheels will always be more appealing since most people don't have the facilities to mount tyres themselves, and that adds to the cost.

If all else fails, stick them on eBay... you will certainly sell them on there.

Getting the tyres fitted is the problem I face - my local workshop/garage will do it for £15 per wheel, which adds quite a chunk!

Obviously, if I sell the wheels and tyres, I will then need to buy new wheels ... £40 for black modulars!? 8-spokes are cheaper, but I'm not sure I like the look...

£15 quid a wheel does seem like a lot, especially as a percentage of the cost of the tyres !

I used to do them with tyre levers back in the bad old days... but that is for the special people ;-)

Don't forget, the cost of P+P to remote parts of country might put potential
buyers off.

Considering I paid £30 to have two lots of 4 tyres taken off rims and one set of 4 tyres fitted and balanced to rims £15 a tyre seems very excessive!

As for not moving the Colways yet, you've got to hang on for a bit longer yet

But, unless you drive to your local tyre shop and have whatever they have, that issue applies to anywhere you buy them from.

Of course, selling among friends it's more likely that a meet could be arranged   Especially if it involves going to the seaside

The standard LR Discovery type - I'll have a look through my photos to see if any show them properly!

Could it be because you've found them to be wanting off road and most people on here are looking at getting more capable tyres Gords?

Gords, Wanderer has a point, you're selling them because you don't want them for the same reasons no ones buying them.

Also, they are standard size. A lot of upgrades are to a large size. Sorry, don't think that helped

Not always.
Last time I got tyres locally I found what I wanted on the net and got a price then went in to the local tyre place and asked if they did them.
Yes they could get them and they quoted £90 a corner fitted (Goodyear AT/R's!!).
I told them I could get them I could get the tyres for £63 each + delivery, shown a print of the online quote and gave them a choice:- Did they want to come closer to the mainland price and supply & fit or did they just want to fit them at the £5 a corner he had already quoted!!  :?

I got them for £70 each, fitted & balanced!  :D

if you stick them on ebay with the alloys you should get £2oo minimum, i managed to flog mine on there for £22o with pretty worn goodyear ATs on em. S1 alloys seem to sell much better than the newer ones

Well, that's one option. Obviously, if I buy a wheel/tyre package, they'll already be fitted/balanced/etc (won't they?). Of course, wheels will cost more than getting the tyres fitted!

On the subject of wheels - are they generally a direct replacement, or do they change the offset, for example? If so, is that good or bad?

Also, what do insurance companies think of aftermarket wheels?
