300 TDi Fuel Injection pump
« on: May 28, 2013, 01:19:07 »
I just swapped the FIP on one of the cars and once it started running it's playing up.

It starts fine and sounds okm just like it did before.  Then after a few seconds it starts to run fast, but not smoothly, it almost missfires.

Is there anything i could have missed, or is the pump more of a pup?  it was an E-bay purchase, the guy sad it has about 100k on it and was running fine.  It's not been mucked about with or tweaked that I can tell.

One odd thing, the fuel enrichment pin doesn't pop out into the pressure enrichment device, should it?  every other one I've taken apart did but I'm not expert in the TDi.

Never had one in bits but i would not trust the provenance of a second hand ebay special.

If you mean the needle that run up the cone controlled by the tubo pressure then yes, it should move out when the throttle linkage is moved.
Without insult, is the timing correct?

The guy sent me another pump, so we got it sorted with that.  Looks like the pump was a pup.

The second pump was from an M reg Disco but it didn't have the EGR sensor or the idle control lever on the side, might that be a 200 pump I wonder :undecided:

Anyway it's running fine now, when money allows we'll get the original pump rebuilt and put back on, it was pretty economical before it sprung a leak.
