We were at the LRO show at Driffield today & there was a very nice "K" 1992 3.9efi auto in the auction, lot 19 for anyone who was there. I opened the bidding at £500 & things progressed up to £1950 & I won the motor.
Then saw the handler & gave my Debit card in for a deposit of £200, she said they would contact the vendor to make sure all was OK. Not having been to an auction before I just presumed this was normal. 20 mins. later I asked her what was happening & she said " the vendor has a reserve of £3000 on it & did I want to increase my bid".
At no time during the bidding was there any mention of a reserve & as far as I was conserned I had BOUGHT the motor.
I got my card back & left in a high state of temper & will be writing to them tomorrow to vent my feelings about the way they do buisness.
What is the point of putting a motor into an auction, letting it sell & only 20 mins. later bring a reserve into the sale. Grrrrrrr--Cogs
