EDC, electronic diesel control
« on: May 21, 2005, 05:38:32 »
Hi.

Anyone have idea how to find out if one has EDC in car? Allisports page has something mentioned about them. It says that later 300 tdi models have them. And if it possible to change to new upgraded version to get more out of engine?

The EDC (Electronic Diesel Control) was introduced on late 300 engines, more as a prelude to the Td5 which has a similar system I believe.
As to how to tell if your's has it or not I don't know but I think you will have one or two multi-pin connectors on the injection pump if it is present.
I believe it started appearing on auto 300's from '97.

OK this won't really help but apparently ALL 300tdi's (1996 on) have the same wiring looms and are fitted with EDC, EGR & ABS wiring & pcb's as standard. Whether they are connected or not depends on your models spec. Mine is a basic 3 door model but only has the EGR connected. There is a control unit for the EDC plugged in high up in the drivers footwell, behind and to the right of the fuse board. You have to look from the pedals upward to see it tho. I understood that the EDC unit has a fly-by-wire throttle and not a cable throttle. That maybe a good place to start looking but I'm sure they were only fitted to Autos anyway.

OK, have a look at the injector closest to the fire wall. If it has a fine wire coming out of it then you have EDC. This is the expensive 'inteligent injector' if it goes bad. I know from experience :x  If your truck is hard to start or sluggish then this could be [!Expletive Deleted!]. Only way to find out is engine check light will be on the dash and a plug in at your local LR specialist will confirm!

You're quite right, checked mine and it does have a potentiometer on the throttle linkage. I thought this was sending info to the EGR though.
