30min job, yea right says the wife!
« on: May 23, 2005, 19:36:36 »
Managed to get a slave cylinder for the clutch, told the wife I'd be in for tea in an hour. Only managed 10 minutes before I rounded the top 10mm bolt ](*,)
It's in an awkward position, and I've no realistic idea's as to how I'm going to get the bloody thing out now, and I can't think for red mist :(bigangry):
So, any suggestions, anyone else found themselves in this position?

Cheers
Ollie.

find a slightly smaller socket and hammer it on the hammering will also help break the seal/rust that is holding it in place.

Failing that, grind the top off, and use WD40 and mole grips (Or stud remover) after you have removed the slave

if you can get to it use a hack saw or thin cutting disk and put enough of a slice in to get a normal screwdriver blade and hammer/impact and twist it out :(bigoops): not perfect i know but it has helped in the past.
yer better not naff this up an come back to these shores or god help me yer auld aunt nelly will jump out of her grave an like as not kick yer teeth in......

I did this when it came to change my slave cylinder.... and i found a good way was to just use DOT 3 instead of DOT4 brake fluid.... its thicker and doesnt leak out!! its cheaper aswell!!!
It worked for me

I hope you aren't seriously thinking of hitting the slave cylinder with a hammer

It is bolted into a cast Aluminium bell housing !!!

My next job. I suspect it is the cause of my magically disappering clutch fluid.
