Hi Guys,

Im having issue with my a/c. I know you dont think its important, but out here in the DESERT it is DAAAMN Hot!!

So here goe sthe story..

When I bought my LR (can some one tell me what model it is from the pics in the galery etc? its 94 Discovery.. ) It had a LPG conversion on it.. so it could runon LPG and on ULP.

I needed the room in the back, so I took out the GAS tank, and just took out the fuse from the switch so it just ran on fuel.. Beautifull. Until I needed to run the Aiconditioning. It has two.. one in the front (under the dash i guess) and a second unit under the arm rest, in the center console.

The rear one works well.. but the front is not cool at all. Now, I spotted that some of the pipes that run the coolant, run into the LPG gizmo, and also there is another pipe, which is not doing anything (and runs into the firewall). I was wondering if some one can help me out and show me how to put it back together the way it should be.. and or have any idea whats up with the A/C, is it related?

I had it tested (for a/c gas) and it has plenty.. so what gives?

Also the LR seems to overheat a bit on long distance driving during the hot days, while the A/C is on.

(ive added some pics into the galery to show you what I mean)

Thanks in Advance

The water circulates through the LPG unit to heat it up before going to the heater matrix.  If you are removing the LPG then you could connect these pipe to each other or replace the original hose.

Looking at your picture I'd say that on your car they have replaced the heater matrix with the lpg, so the pipe that goes nowhere should be connected to one of the two pipes that run parallel accross the top of the engine, in fact there should be two pipes going behind the engine into the heater.

BUT, this is the cab heater and I'm not aware that it should affect the A/C.  Firstly, check that all the fuses etc are ok, there should be a suplimental fuse box for the A/C in the dash.  Check the A/C fans are ok and check whether or not the A/C pump is connected and working.  It has a clutch in the front that disengages it when not in use or when the A/C is cold enough, if someone has been trying to get fuel economy they may have disconnected the electrics so that the pump never works.  Note the pulleys still go round.  On a hot-wire sytem there is an input to the ECU from the A/C to raise the idle speed and prevent a flat battery, you could check this also.

Range Rover Blues, thank you I will go through it again in the morning.. maybe like u said there is another  pipe.

Also I will go through the fuse boxe (there is so many fuses).. what I remeber happening is when the first time we used the A/C it wasnt very cold, so we took it to a bloke that re-gassed it, checked it, and it was COLD.

Then we went on a 10 hr journey, across the desert, however when we were driving to wards the end of our juurney, we saw like a faint "cold" gas comeing out of the front vents.

I think after that is when it stopped being cold. Its weird cos the back unit is going good.. so to speak. On a long journey, say I need to slow down using gears, the back unit start spitting water.. and the metal pipes are so cold they have a like 3mls of ice around them!

I'll keep posting..

Cheers
